Blog Assignment 3 - Personal Billboards

My very own license plates!

The following images and symbols represent my "personal billboards."

As you can see from my "personal billboards," I am a glass half full type of person. It is important to me that people are able to live their "best life." I feel as though I was an "old soul" early in life which allows me to have a deeper appreciation for every day. I am a person that loves life and gets excited for whatever comes next. My license plate "Liv Luv Laf" is really how I live my life and I would highly suggest it to others.

Regarding this assignment, I do value "personal billboards." I value them based on personal rights and view some expressions as a form of art. Majority of the time I do not have a problem with other people's "personal billboards." If I ever find myself irritated or offended by a message, I quickly remind myself of the right to the freedom of speech. I do not want somebody taking away my rights, therefore, I cannot be hypocritical and deny theirs. Another reason why I value these billboards is because many things need to be said and as Newman mentions in the textbook, these types of messages can be seen by many with little expense. I think that we would live in a different world if only the wealthy could afford to make their messages known. I also look at many forms of "personal billboards," like tattoos, to be a form of art.

Just because I believe in freedom of speech does not mean that I do not get offended at some of the "personal billboards." I do however feel that the most offensive, dangerous, cruel, or harmful messages portrayed are often reduced in my mind because I tend to pity the ignorance of the person trying to spread "the hate and evil." I shake my head and hope that one would consider the source before believing such messages.

Just for fun, I thought I would close with a fun song, "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bob Marley.

  1. Disclaimer: When I check my blog, my pictures appear. When I check it other times, some of the pictures do not appear. Sorry, but I do not know what to make of this glitch. Suggestions are welcome.

  2. I really enjoyed your billboards (However, some of them I couldn't see). What I take away from your personal billboards is that life is life and we need to except it the way it comes. We need to smile and move on, we need to except what it is, and we just need to realize that life itself is good. I like this because it seems carefree to me, why worry about all the little things and what people have to think of you; it just makes it all harder. Very nicely said!

  3. I think they're all showing for me; i.e., there are no obvious gaps where it seems that one should be nor an icon suggesting an image that isn't appearing.

Very nicely done! Thanks for the good work!

  4. I loved your billboards, and they all are showing for me from what I can see. I do love the overall message of "stopping to smell the roses" and appreciating the life you are given. I especially like the "be yourself, everyone else is already taken" picture as it reminded me of the pressures of young men and women to act or look a certain way because of the mainstream media. Why not be happy with who we are? I think we should all feel extremely blessed for being in this world, and I love your positive attitude!
Thank you for sharing. Nicely done.

  5. Tonya,

I really enjoyed looking at all of your personal billboards and how many there were. My favorites were it is what it is and the cat looking into the mirror at the lion and what matters most is how you see yourself and not how others see you or judge you. I think that's a really important part of life. Overall, you did a great job and I really enjoyed reading your blog!

  6. I enjoyed your billboards as well, and I thought you had a nice amount of them to demonstrate your views. I also thought that referencing the textbook in the second to last paragraph was an excellent idea to strengthen your claim.
